About me
I’m Ashley Jones, a South African–born artist now based in Buckinghamshire, UK. Art has always been part of who I am — a constant companion and a powerful way to explore emotion, identity, and experience. As someone with dyslexia, creating has long been a vital form of expression, helping me process and communicate in ways words sometimes cannot.
Working across charcoal, graphite, acrylics, oils, watercolours, and clay, my practice is intentionally wide-ranging. My work moves fluidly between detailed realism and expressive abstraction, guided by curiosity rather than convention.
Charcoal remains my first love. Drawn to its depth, texture, and moody layering, it allows me to capture atmosphere and emotion with an honesty I continually return to. My grounding in graphite — largely self-taught — laid the foundation for this, shaping my sensitivity to line, tone, and form. More recently, I have begun exploring clay sculpture, discovering form and texture as a new language within my creative practice.
Over the past three years, I have focused on developing my skills alongside inspiring fellow artists, a journey that has given me the confidence to begin sharing and selling my work. Each piece reflects an ongoing dialogue between control and spontaneity — where technique meets instinct, and creativity remains open, exploratory, and unbound.
